Defend Against Fascism
Donald Trump’s fascist agenda has brought violence and chaos to the doorstep of too many American cities. Here is how Madison can fight back against these unconstitutional incursions and protect our vulnerable communities from persecution and violence:
Protect Protestors
The first amendment is the cornerstone of our democracy. But Trump has directed federal law enforcement to harass, arrest, and attack protestors across the country. Madison Police cannot assist in this unconstitutional crackdown and should instead stand as the first line of defense to keep protestors safe from interference.
A Sanctuary For All
Madison’s reputation as a progressive safe haven is well earned, but we need to ensure we are living up to that legacy. As the Trump administration continues and expands its attacks against immigrants, transgender individuals, women, and other groups, Madison needs to welcome those affected with open arms and make sure they can live lives free from persecution.
Stop ICE Activity
Under Trump, ICE is a completely unaccountable posse who attack and detain members of our community regardless of their immigration status. Madison and Dane County have taken strong steps by ending cooperation with ICE, but need to go further to protect our vulnerable populations. When ICE shows up in Madison, the city should make sure people are informed of their presence and send official observers who can document and prevent abuses of our rights.
